first drop of mini prints.
This is a post i wrote last week. I’m now a million miles away from miniatures tens of metres up a lift painting a big mural for hit the north festival in Belfast, Ireland.
I thought getting 250 sets of prints ready would be fairly relaxing. Turns out i hadn’t really done the maths on the sets containing five miniature prints in each. Compounded by the fact i’ve spent seven years happily printing but almost entirely avoided cutting and stamping the prints (a habit i’ve changed going forward with these drops)
I’ve managed to get all the work done now. I thought you’d like to see the three stamps that designate rarity and what a typical set looks like. Every set includes one of the larger sizes and one of the medium sizes, and three of the smaller ones. With the medium and small there’s at least thirty different images in the pool. The large format prints there are only three images i’ve printed and prepared.
The prints i have printed and cut should be fine for at least three releases before i have to think about introducing more images and printing older plates. The only plate i plan to have on the engraving table over the summer in one more of the larger size miniatures. I’d like to be able to introduce another of those at some point. My hope is that with the huge stockpile i have from the past five years of printing i should be able to casually work on miniatures and keep the pool of prints fresh.
These are the three larger postcard size prints. Ever set will have one of these three.
This is one of the typical prepared sets. I’ve sourced biodegradable bags. These are frosted and made to fit each print size. I love the feeling of unboxing something hand made so i’ve tried to make it a slow experience.
This is the stamp and signature for a rare one (typically less than 50) This particular one is an early engraving when i was experimenting with drastically altering the burin shapes.
This is a lovely little miniature from early on. This got retired after a hundred or so as it was just too lightly engraved. It started to wear down fairly fast so i retired it. This get the medium run blue stamp.
This one printed well enough to make it into the longer run red stamp band. I’ve not retired it yet but it’s hit a point now where if i don’t wipe carefully and make sure the paper is perfectly prepared then i start to get impressions i have to throw away. I’ll ink it up a few more times but if i continue to have to fight to get a good print i’ll retire this one.
